Gordon is the author of the new monograph, has published a powerful book about Eliot Noyes. “He’s one of the giants on whose shoulders we’re standing. Eliot and his team changed the landscape of American design.” As Gordon worked together with Eliot Noyes and Paul Rand (long before being responsible for the big design change at Samsung - see articles here and here) he really knows what he s talking about. Implementation
VIZ4All (University of Maryland) is a compilation of web based application done by Information Visualization class of 2006 spring. This work was inspired by VIZ4ALL project of Information Visualization spring 2005. The applications reviewed by last year’s VIZ4ALL are excluded in this year’s review. Additional to listing new web based applications that emerged in the web domain over the past year, we also discuss mashups in Web2.0, color design issue in web and list links to information visualization related companies.
Scientists and researchers have known for a long time that the best way to decipher vast quantities of data is to display it visually. Instantly recognizing patterns in a chart, graph or diagram “is wired into our visual system as part of the evolution of humans. Our focus is on visualizing abstract data set which can have various graphic representation.
Each application is categorized based on the following classification; Implementation, Application Domain, Visualization Category.

User Experience Design
Through these ten tempestuous years, I’ve found the infamous three circle diagram to be a great tool for explaining how and why we must strike a unique balance on each project between business goals and context, user needs and behavior, and the available mix of content.
Then Peter came up with the honeycomb of those seven aspects - helpful to understand and explain the design process.

The T-Shaped User Experience Strategy
Peter Moreville, one of the key persons in User Experience and Infomation Architecture now unveils new insights between thos two lines (resulting in a “T”). As always, his Semantics Colum is worth to be read.
It is interesting to see what he describes as a “tangibe expression of strategy”: is IA tangible? Definitively not (if you think of the whole TUI discussion). But this idea of “Tangibility” being a key factor in making complex strategies and processes visible is crucial for designers aiming at an involment in earlier stages of the processes…

Then Peter updated his honeycomb as the strategy honeycomb…

liveplasma music, movies, search engine and discovery engine
A visual search engine for music and movies to be explored “intuitevely”. A very interesting invention in 2005, 2 years later pretty much outdated (but still interesting).

Top 10 Things They Never Taught Me in Design School
A very interesting text by Michael McDonough, a New York-based architect, writer and teacher: “The Top 10 Things They Never Taught Me in Design School.” McDonough’s summary is not just entertaining but actually quite useful, and valid for nearly any kind of design discipline.
